Twin Play

As AlisonH pointed out, there's something about twins playing that's different than when siblings of different ages play. Not necessarily ALL differently-aged siblings have 'issues' when they play together, but I think we can agree that many have the occasional argument over whose toy is whose, whose space is whose, etc., where twin siblings have a unique bond. That is not to say that I expect to coast through life with these two getting along all the time and agreeing about everything every step of the way. Lately, when they're on the playmats together, I'm always worried that Morgan is going to gouge out one of Liam's eyes. Not purposefully, mind you, but she has yet to gain the kind of control over her fingers, connective tissue, motor nerves, etc., that would make for a smooth transition from patting his head to backing away. Somewhere in between, when she grabs a piece of his flesh, whether that be an eyeball, ear, or what have you, I fear said piece of flesh may be leaving Liam and traveling back to the space formerly occupied by Morgan. Liam has a big scratch on his nose this morning, actually, and neither Janne nor I have any idea whether he did this to himself, or if Morgan did it, but it doesn't seem to bother him at this point.

I've included a series of pictures here from yesterday, plus one not yet posted from our visit to Mormor's for Lene's birthday last weekend, to give you a better idea / demonstration of Morgan's early dominance over her big brother. And yes, at least at this early stage, he doesn't seem to mind too much. You'll notice in the second picture in the series of "On The Mat" photos (taken by Mom), Morgan has managed to wrest away Liam's beloved soother, yet he doesn't seem phased by it. (Mom gave him back his soother before taking the third picture). At this point, we have never seen him try to take back anything she has taken away from him, so he would have gone without until someone else stood up for him. Actually, I had them both on my lap on Friday night, and my attention was taken by something on TV for only a moment when, all of a sudden, Liam twisted around to look up at me, and was whining. Noticing that it wasn't in its familiar place just under his nose, I asked him, "Where's your soother?" A split second later, I saw it was in Morgan's hand, while hers was still in her mouth. Can't take your eyes off the girl for even a second.

What I love about this last shot is not the fact that she's a split second away from having his ear, but that three of his four limbs are a blur. He has a tendency to rapdily shake all four limbs while resting all his weight on his torso in this position. Makes for some very funny moments on the mat.
